Modules
Micro-skill modules for Code Blue leadership, pulse checks, nurse response and escalation, and ending Code Blue events.
These modules are the brief teaching blocks we will walk through together at the start of the session. They stay posted here for review afterward and for use during real responses.
Pre-Session Checklist
- No pre-work required; we will spend the first 10 minutes going through the pre-test and orientation, then go through the modules together.
- Bring questions from real code/RRT experiences, especially moments when resident and nursing roles felt unclear.
- Note site-specific workflow uncertainties you want clarified.
1. Leadership Skills
Practice naming who is leading, staying at the foot of the bed, thinking out loud, and flattening hierarchy by inviting expertise.
2. Pulse-Check Decisions
Practice code-blue pulse-check decisions: shock/no-shock calls, protecting compression pauses, and using EtCO2 to monitor CPR quality and help detect ROSC.
3. Nurse Response Teams and Escalation
Practice using bedside and outreach expertise to identify trajectory, disposition, and missing resources.
4. Ending Code Blue Considerations
Practice duration decisions, family presence, and ending a code with team check, family plan, and debrief.
